Paraná’s most traditional sports field, Estádio Major Antonio Couto Pereira, is located in the neighborhood of Alto da Glória. The home of the Coxa-branca nation was inaugurated in 1932 and over time has undergone a number of transformations. Its history is meshed with the trajectory of the Paraná club and city of Curitiba.
Recently, Coritiba confirmed the construction of the Mauá grandstand tier, a section of the stadium and a project that fans have been waiting to see become a reality for years. The reform will be made possible through Coritiba and its partners and is expected to be completed for the 2013 season.
“The club is realizing one of the great dreams of the Coxa-branca supporters: the new Mauá grandstand tier. A project developed by Coritiba that, through strategic partnerships, made it possible to conclude the section, increasing the value of Couto Pereira, along with our capacity, creating new points of trade and commercial properties”, the club president pointed out.
There will be three rings with boxes, member seats, snack bars and lounges. An area of over 4,000 square meters, with 4,000 seats and 38 boxes. The new area increases the capacity by 4,754 people. Besides optimizing the physical structure, with comfort and modernity, Coxa is gaining new commercial establishments, too.
It was originally a wood stadium, which carried the name Belfort Duarte, in tribute to the defender from América-RJ, who was renowned for his loyalty and fairness on the field.
Over the years, the wooden grandstands made way for a giant reinforced concrete structure. In 1977, with works concluded, the name of the stadium was changed to Major Antonio Couto Pereia, ex-president of the club, who spared no effort in purchasing land that would be the future stage of the team's leading achievements.
The stadium, however, is often simply referred to as Alto da Glória, a fair name for a place that has witnessed so many glorious moments. With a capacity for 37,000 people, the stadium is constantly enhanced, making its increasingly more modern and comfortable for supporters.
